- A recent study reported that people who regularly had five or more alcoholic drinks in a row starting at age 13 were much more likely to be overweight or have high blood pressure by age 24 than their nondrinking peers.
- When an individual has a blood alcohol level of 0.35% or above, they are in danger of overdosing; the person would, in most instances, have to drink anywhere from 14-18 drinks in a rather brief period of time for this to occur.
- According to government research, alcohol is responsible for over 5% of the diseases in the United States, contributing to more than 60 different medical conditions; tobacco is responsible for 4.1% and high blood pressure is responsible for 4.4%.
- In a study of normal healthy men who received alcohol for 4 weeks, testosterone levels declined after only 5 days and continued to fall throughout the study period. Prolonged testosterone deficiency may cause a "femininization" of male sexual characteristics, for example breast enlargement.
