- Denial is perhaps the hugest obstacle to getting help for alcoholism; the desire to drink can be so strong that the mind finds a way to rationalize drinking. Denial exacerbates alcohol related problems by keeping the individual from looking honestly at the negative effects of their drinking behavior.
- "Problem drinking" is generally defined as any consumption of alcohol that results in significant risk of physical damage, psychological problems, accidents, and social or domestic problems.
- One half of car accidents are associated with alcohol abuse.
- Women have less water in their bodies than men, so after a man and woman of the same weight drink the same amount of alcohol, the woman's blood alcohol concentration will tend to be higher.
