- Many alcoholics will deny that they have a drinking problem whatsoever. Alcoholics can come up with a number of excuses to justify their drinking, i.e. blaming it on work, stress or a relationship. Their denial can be so powerful that they simply cannot see how much their drinking is causing negative consequences in their life.
- Young adults with serious alcohol problems may not be as likely to choose becoming married or having a child, and these milestones may not affect their drinking behavior to the same extent that they affect people with less problematic drinking practices.
- Youth who drink alcohol are more likely to experience higher risk for suicide and homicide.
- Women absorb alcohol into the bloodstream faster and metabolize it slower than men.
